Pack your gear and come along with us for the 2016 Source to Sea trip down the Androscoggin River. check the schedule below for details of dates and times.     Beautiful, rural paddling from Leeds to Turner.  Ends at the gateway to Androscoggin Riverlands State Park. A great section for bird sightings. Bring a lunch to enjoy at the take out in Turner where we will have Tom Mapletoft speaking about Brookfield Renewable Energy and dam safety. 

    Meet at 8:30 am on Googin's Island (between the Twin Bridges) on Route 219 in Leeds.

    Twin Bridges (Leeds) to Center Bridge (Turner)

     

    Put in: Googin’s Island between the Twin Bridges on Route 219.  A path leads to the downstream tip of the island, avoiding some rapids underneath one of the bridges.  A good sized paved parking lot.  N44°20.516' W070°11.261'

    N44°20Take out: The Leeds side of Center Bridge has a boat launch maintained by Brookfield with many parking spaces. N44°15.436' W070°10.963'

    Total paddling distance: 6.7 miles

    Shuttling directions: Turn left out of the parking lot.  After going over the bridge, stay left on Route 219.  After 1.7 miles, turn left to stay on Route 219.  After 4.3 miles, turn left on Route 117/North Parish Road.  After 2.1 miles, turn left on Center Bridge Road.  The boat launch is on the Leeds side of the bridge.

    Notes:  A quick, easy paddle.  We plan to arrive at the takeout by lunch at a good clip.

    An easy and nice 10 mile paddle bordering one of Maine's newest state parks, the Androscoggin Riverlands. Adam McKay will meet paddlers at the Picnic Meadow in the park for a short discussion on the development of the park. After a another stop in the park to view the old foundations,  we will continue on to Cherry Pond. Once at Cherry Pond you will be able to try paddle boards or boats compliments of Shaker Hill Outdoors.  Invite your friends to come and check it out.  

    Meet at 8:30 am at Center Bridge (on Center Bridge Road) in Turner. Take out will be at Cherry Pond.   
    Distance:  approximately 10 miles.

    A day to get out of the city and enjoy the Androscoggin River at Cherry Pond where you will be able to try paddle boards or kayaks compliments of Shaker Hill Outdoors.  Free kayaks, paddle boards, paddles and life jackets provided. A light lunch will be provided after paddling when you will meet up with paddlers on the Source to Sea. 


    Registration is limited. First come first served. Children under 18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian.

    A mellow and scenic round-trip paddle in Lewiston/Auburn.  

    You just might see an eagle or two.  
    Meet at 8:30 am at the North River Road boat launch (behind Wendy's on Center St. in Auburn), paddle to the Androscoggin Land Trust's David Rancourt Preserve, take a short hike on the preserve.

    Trip Leader: Judy Marden 

    Activity: Short hike on the preserve and lunch at Rolly's after the paddle.

    Put in and take out: N44°06.488' W070°13.401'


    Notes: Put in at the North River Road launch in Auburn and paddle about 1.75 miles upstream until you reach a small sand beach on the Lewiston side of the river.  This is the Androscoggin Land Trust's David Rancourt Preserve, which has some trails through the woods.  Paddle back to the start.  Current is slow to non-existent because the put-in is just above Great Falls Dam and the Rancourt Preserve is just below the Deer Rips Dam. Plans to meet at Rolly's, a local diner for lunch after the paddle.

    This event is sponsored by the Androscoggin Land Trust.

    Always a fun time and a great way to meet and talk river talk with the folks from the Androscoggin Land Trust. Munchies provided at Gritty's after the paddle compliments of ALT, but opportunities nearby to get a meal if you need one before or after you paddle.

    The Androscoggin Land Trust is a non-profit membership-supported organization dedicated to protecting through land conservation and stewardship, the important natural areas, traditional landscapes, and outdoor experience in the Androscoggin River watershed.

    The land trust currently conserves approximately 4,850 acres of land, including over ten miles of riverfront along the Androscoggin River.  We also work with municipalities to help steward trails and other recreation sites throughout our service area.

    After Paddle Activity: Short hike on the Papermill Trail and/or ice cream treat at the local ice cream shop.
    Presenter/ On River Activity: NOAA Weather Station in Gray Maine will be on board to paddle down the river with us an impart  weather knowledge to us. There is one set of rips that can be quite delightful and an easier stretch through them for the timid paddler.  It is a great trip down the river and a great place to get some ice cream just a short walk down the river walk from the take-out. Come join us for the fun.
