Beautiful, rural paddling from one end of Turner to the other.  Ends at the gateway to Androscoggin Riverlands State Park. A great section for bird sightings.

Meet at 9 am on Googin's Island (between the Twin Bridges) on Route 219 in Turner.

Presentation/Activity: Discussion on barrier assessment on Martin Stream which is designated a high quality Brook Tout stream in Turner led by Jeff Stern

Jeff as 30 years’ experience in watershed protection, public health risk assessment, and environmental cleanup. He has coordinated habitat restoration, riverbank stabilization, and erosion control initiatives for towns and citizen groups throughout western Maine.

In 2011, Jeff coordinated an inventory of barriers to brook trout movement in the Sunday River and Bear River sub-watersheds of the Androscoggin River for the Androscoggin River Watershed Council.

Outside of his work with the Council Jeff has taught the “Living Connections” environmental education program for Lakes Environmental Association to grade school students in the Lakes Region of southwestern Maine, and currently teaches a summer school class on river science to similarly-aged children for the LOOK Program in Oxford.

Jeff has authored the well-regarded novel, Soul like a River, and has written for many magazines and newspapers. Jeff earned a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1978.
